I’ve been staring at this picture for a little while now and it kinda hit me. Me and this kid never really talked too much over the summer. No, we didn’t dislike each other or anything, but that’s sometimes how it is between hornline and guard people. We don’t share blocks except for ensemble and chances are, we hang out with our sections during breaks. Despite this, when I came to watch his guard rehearse at the competition that I was working at, his face completely lit up when he saw me. As soon as he could, he ran over to me and gave me a big sweaty hug before they left for the gate. Then he was even happier when I told him that I would stay to watch him perform. As his band was lined up to go on, we exchanged little glances and smiles, me telling him to “get it” and stuff. We were able to get this picture after he went on and it’s amazing how it means so much to me. To other people, we just did “summer band” together and have matching necklaces. To me, this kid is like a brother.
tl;dr: your corps family is your family. Even if you and someone didn’t really talk much or weren’t really friends, you never really know how much you missed each other til you see them again.
